UCSD Recreation

The recreation center offers a wide variety of recreation classes, such as Aquatics, Dance, Community Interest, Sports and Fitness, Martial Arts, Mind/Body Classes, Interim Classes, Children and Youth Classes, Knock Around Summer Camp for Kids, and Cardio/Indoor Cycling.

UCSD Crafts Center

The Crafts Center offers classes in ceramics, pottery, photography, glass blowing, and jewelery making. Check them at out www-crafts.ucsd.edu.

San Diego Parks

San Diego is home to several publicly owned open-space parks.

Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is located in the City of San Diego between the I-5 and I-15 freeways, some twelve miles north of the City's urban center. The Preserve is composed of two large coastal canyons. When completed it will cover over 4000 acres and stretch some 7 miles.

Marian Bear Memorial Park is located in San Clemente Canyon stretching from Interstate 5 to Interstate 805. The park provides a natural setting in the midst of a bustling urban area. The 467 acres of dedicated natural parkland include finger canyons and mesas on the south side with a rich and diverse history.

Mission Trails Regional Park with its state-of-the-art Visitor and Interpretive Center is operated and maintained by the City of San Diego in close partnership with the Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation. Full-time city park rangers and volunteer docents provide a wide range of interpretive programming, including tours and hikes, as well as video and slide presentations. Over 60,000 school children have toured the park. At 5,800 acres, Mission Trails is one of the largest urban parks in the country. For further information, visit their website: www.mtrp.org.

Tecolote Canyon Natural Park offers its visitors a variety of educational and recreational opportunities. The Canyon has approximately 6.5 miles of trails that can be used for jogging, walking, and mountain biking. Also available to visitors is the newly constructed Nature Center which offers a host of exhibits on the animal and plant life of the Canyon.

Chicano Park is the world’s largest outdoor museum, featuring murals that highlight the Chicano/a experience locally, nationally and internationally. The takeover/founding of this park is celebrated the fourth Saturday in April every year. The park is located in Barrio Logan, South of Downtown San Diego.

Golf Courses

Torrey Pines
Facilities include: two 18-hole championship golf courses, driving range, practice putting greens, restaurant, food and beverage carts. Torrey Pines boasts the west's largest Golf Shop, offering a full range of golf merchandise for sale and the rental of golf shoes, clubs, hand and power golf carts. The Professional Golf Staff offers group and individual golf lessons. Torrey Pines hosts the PGA TOUR Buick Invitational each February.

Balboa Park Municipal Golf Course
Facilities include: An 18-hole golf course and a 9-hole executive golf course, driving range, practice putting greens, coffee shop and half-way house. The Golf Shop offers golf merchandise for sale and the rental of clubs, hand and power golf carts. The Professional Golf staff offers group and individual golf lessons.

Beaches
